Dr Obinna Ekwunife is a public health scientist. He is a senior lecturer in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Management, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nigeria. He coordinates the Research Group for Evidence-Based Health Care at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (www.ebhc-unizik.com). He also coordinates the Grant Development and Maintenance Office at Nnamdi Azikiwe University. His research interests are in the following areas: health economics, evidence-based public health and clinical trials. He applies these research methods to generate evidence to aid health care decisions in Nigeria and Africa at large. His research focuses mainly on the following diseases: neglected tropical diseases, HIV and malaria. He has 50 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Young Academy (NYA) and Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He has won several international research grants including the Georg Forster Research Fellowship (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation) and European and Developing Countries Clinical Trial Partnership (EDCTP) Career Development Fellowship. Currently, he is the programme manager of Social Innovation in Health Initiative (SIHI) Nigeria Hub, a World Health Organisation (WHO) sponsored project that aims to identify and promote social innovations in health in Nigeria.
